SAPawn is a South African technology company that provides comprehensive pawn shop management software to registered second-hand goods dealers across the Republic of South Africa. Our platform is purpose-built for the unique regulatory, operational, and financial requirements of the South African pawn industry.

Our Mission

To empower South African pawn shops with professional, affordable, and fully compliant software that simplifies daily operations, ensures legal compliance, and connects businesses to a wider customer base through our online marketplace.

What We Do

SAPawn provides a cloud-based platform (with optional offline desktop application) that enables pawn shop owners and staff to:

Manage the full pawn lifecycle — from pawning in items, through grace periods, to forfeiture and sale
Track inventory with barcode scanning, photographs, and detailed item descriptions
Maintain customer records in compliance with the Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009
Calculate fees and interest in accordance with the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 (capped at 5% per month)
Handle daily cash-ups, expense tracking, and financial reporting
Manage VAT (inclusive, exclusive, or non-registered) as required by SARS
Integrate with the South African Police Service (SAPS) for stolen goods reporting
Sell forfeited goods through our online marketplace at sapawn.co.za/shop

Our Online Marketplace

The SAPawn Marketplace is a public-facing e-commerce platform where registered pawn shops list their forfeited (legally available for sale) items. Customers can browse, purchase, and arrange delivery or collection of second-hand goods from pawn shops across South Africa.

All items are sourced from licensed second-hand goods dealers
All prices are displayed in South African Rand (ZAR)
Payments are processed securely via PayGate (DPO Group), a PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant payment gateway
No card details are stored on our servers

Legal Status

SAPawn is a software platform provider. We do not operate pawn shops, extend credit, buy or sell goods, or hold any second-hand goods dealer licence ourselves. Each pawn shop on the platform is an independent, registered business responsible for its own regulatory compliance.
